The 2026 season is shaping as an exciting chapter for Nepean FC’s Women’s League One program, with First Grade Head Coach Sean Payer confident in the direction the squad is heading.
After a year of learning and growth, the focus has been clear — lay strong foundations, raise standards, and build a competitive culture that will stand the test of time.
“Really happy with how the squad is shaping up so far,” Payer said.
“There’s a great mix of returning players and new faces, and the attitude across the group has been excellent. After last year, the focus has been on laying strong foundations and setting standards in how we train and play — and the girls have really bought into that.”
Nepean enters the new campaign with a renewed sense of purpose.
“We know where we came from last season, but this year isn’t about just making up numbers. We want to be competitive every week, keep improving as a group, and build something that will hold us in good stead long term.
We’re looking to keep developing, play the right way, and put ourselves in a position to challenge sides consistently throughout the season.”
A defining feature of this year’s squad is its youth profile. Across the Under 23s and First Grade combined, the average age sits at just 21 — a clear sign the club is investing in the next generation of senior footballers.
“We have a very young senior squad, so it’s about building for the future and giving young, talented players a real opportunity in senior football.”
Leadership within the group has also been instrumental in shaping preseason standards.
“Our Coaching staff with Jez and Mahdi have set the standard at training, driving intensity and keeping everyone accountable. They’ve played a big role in shaping how we want to play this season.”
